About Us

Cello World is MIT's first and only cello club! We perform, practice, arrange, and record cello music. We organize an ensemble that performs at events on campus, and a reading group that sight-reads music together. We also hold community events, like a caroling session (the Holiday Cellobration!) in Lobby 10 every December. We play a variety of music, including classical, pop, movie soundtracks, and musical songs.

Multitrack Projects

The cello fun doesn't end while MIT is remote! While we're socially distanced at home, we've been playing together with multitrack recording projects. Our past projects can be found on our performances page.

Some of these projects are part of our Music Unites: Songs for Equity (MUSE) project, showcasing works by Black composers.

Our ensemble, Cello++, performs at events around campus. Our debut performance was at the LSC Frozen double feature in March 2020, where we performed songs, arranged by our own members, from Frozen and Frozen 2. When we're on campus, our ensemble meets weekly to rehearse.

Reading Group

When we're on campus, our reading group meets every other week to sight-read together. We read all kinds of music. Come for a break from psets! This is the chillest, cello-est group on campus :)
